WORDS THAT ENGAGE
Will you make it to the second paragraph?
Only if I'm good at this. We’re all looking for ways to shine. Websites should be a place to do just that. But getting it right isn’t easy – and these days you only have a few seconds to engage readers before they click somewhere else.
So how can I help? I make you shine with good copy. With writing that says what you want to say in a way that works for your audience. Because sloppy writing is bad news for your business: if the writing’s no good, what else don’t you care about?
From websites and print copy to packaging and ads, I’ll work with you to suss out the important stuff, and put it into words that keep people reading. Words that stop them from clicking somewhere else.
Dee n' Do
Premium lifestyle magazine highlighting the beauty and character of the Royal Deeside area and surrounding communities. I contributed feature articles for the magazine, covering a range of topics from local artists to history, in addition to promotional and marketing content.
UK-based drilling contractor, owning and operating two mid-water, semi-submersible drilling units in the North Sea. I wrote content for the company’s staff newsletters.
I interviewed participating families across Scotland and created case studies summarising their experiences of the ScotSpirit Breaks, the national tourism organisation’s inclusive tourism initiative. Drawing on experience in my previous role as a press officer for VisitScotland, I worked with a number of individuals within both VisitScotland and partnering organisations to create engaging case studies for a wide-ranging audience including tourism businesses, politicians and the media.
WHAT CLIENTS SAY
“Thank you, Sally, for all your hard work in writing the content for our new website. You have done a fantastic job in capturing the essence of Glen Tanar in your writing and we are sure it will make the website something really special. Well done also for being so efficient and managing all our requests - while keeping to our tight deadlines! You really did make the whole process much easier."
Rachel Gray, Marketing & Communications Executive, Glen Tanar Estate
"Sally listened to the brief and quickly understood what we were trying to achieve. She turned around high quality copy within tight timescales - we wouldn't hesitate to use her services again."
Alistair Aboyne, Managing Director, AJC Homes
“Sally understood technical and commercial aspects in multiple sectors, and quickly gained enough technical knowledge to write credible articles with little assistance. She was happy to interact with different levels across the organisation from the CEO to engineers to the sales team. Sally built strong media relationships in the relevant sectors and always met deadlines. A trusted and reliable partner.”
Philip Buchan, Commercial Director, Cyberhawk Innovations
"Sally delivered a series of inclusive tourism case studies for us. Highly professional, she produced clear, good quality copy that captured the positive impacts of a short break on vulnerable families in Scotland. Sally quickly grasped the brief, was proactive and efficient in conducting the interviews, and quick to turn these into engaging, highly readable case studies."
Lee McRonald, International Partnerships Manager, VisitScotland

Qualified in Geophysics and Science Communication, I have worked in Science Writing, Public Relations and Corporate Communications. I’ve written exhibition copy for the Edinburgh International Science Festival, and co-ordinated photo shoots in central London with a range of personalities from celebrities to live goats and sheep. I led VisitScotland’s PR effort behind the crane-in of a replica Victorian railway carriage to the old station in Ballater, Royal Deeside, a suggestion made by HRH Prince Charles.
More recently my writing has focused on the world leader in drone surveying and inspection, while closer to home, I’ve been writing about a picturesque glen in the Cairngorms National Park, with its award-winning wedding venue and charming holiday cottages. I’m based in Aberdeenshire, but have worked with clients across Scotland and am happy to travel to work with you in person, or remotely via Skype, phone or email.
